Bachelor of Arts in English
Four-Year Undergraduate Program
Bachelor of Arts in English at AEU is designed to acquaint students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to teach English as a second or foreign language. The course offers a combination of advanced work in applied linguistics with training in current methods of English language teaching. This is a four-year, undergraduate program, covering eight semesters. In the first year, Foundation Year, students are required to go through general English language programs in order to acquire advanced level language proficiency. Some of the core subjects include Core English, Writing Skills, Speaking and Listening, English Literature and so on. In the fourth year, students are required to focus primarily on three subjects (i.e. Teaching Methodology, Foundations of Education, and Applied Linguistics), before their teaching practicum. The course therefore prepares graduates to become effective ESL/EFL teachers.
